Earlier this week, the Chamber hosted a Decarbonisation Workshop, where 25 members were in attendance to discuss financial incentives to help the shipping industry achieve its net-zero goal at the UK level.Meanwhile, we had the pleasure of welcoming a new member, the Garant Group, which specialises in shipping solutions for a range of shipping sectors, such as the oil & gas, wind energy power plant and coastal industries. You can learn more about them in our first bulletin item below.We have also been putting the finishing touches to our Summer Lunch, which is taking place just over a week from now. What's newSkillsea Final ConferenceThe Chamber's Policy Director and former ECSA Social Affairs Committee Chairperson, Tim Springett, was a panellist at the final conference for the Skillsea project in Brussels on 31 May.Skillsea was a four-year project supported by the EU that aimed to identify in detail the future skills needed in maritime.The project found that the most needed skills were those relating to the greening of shipping, particularly around new fuels and digitalisation. A greater emphasis was also placed on soft skills. Collaboration and sharing of knowledge between European Maritime Education and Training (MET) institutions were encouraged, and, to this end, the conference served as the setting for the launch and signing ceremony of MET-NET.View the project's conclusions and recommendations on the Skillsea website.Welcome To our New Member: Garant GroupThe Chamber is delighted to welcome to its membership, the Garant Group, an international group of companies that offers comprehensive shipping solutions for oil & gas, coastal industries and the wind energy power plants.A Garant Group spokesperson, commented on their membership by saying:"It is an honour to participate in such organisation. Located in the heart of the Old Town, just off the Royal Mile and next to St Giles’ Cathedral, the Signet Library was described by George IV as “the finest drawing room in Europe” and will allow the Chamber to host in excess of 200 guests in June.Harbour Towage Panel This Panel will take place at 10:30 on Wednesday 14 June 2023, at Seawork 2023, the leading European commercial marine exhibition in Southampton running 13-15 June.All members with an interest in harbour towage and related matters, including tug operators, class societies, law firms, P&I clubs, port authorities, marine consultants and others are encouraged to attend.
