Annual Dinner President's Charity

The 2024 Annual Dinner President's Charity is the Sailors' Society, chosen by Chamber President Graham Westgarth. The dinner will be held on Monday, 5 February, at the JW Marriott Grosvenor House in London, and we expect over 850 guests to join us.

Our President said:

“I am delighted to announce the Sailors’ Society as our Charity partner for the UK Chamber of Shipping Annual Dinner. This wonderful charity has supported merchant seafarers for more than 200 years. I look forward to the shipping community coming together in February to raise some well-deserved funds to help them continue their fantastic work.”

Sailors' Society CEO Sara Baade said:

“We are delighted that Sailors’ Society has been chosen as the President's nominated charity for the Chamber Annual Dinner 2024.

"We, like the Chamber, seek to ensure shipping is ready for the challenges of tomorrow through our ground-breaking Wellness at Sea programme and our 24/7 support for seafarers and their families. We cannot thank the Chamber President Graham Westgarth enough for choosing us to be the beneficiary charity and, through this event, helping us raise much-needed funds to support our work.”

Collaborating to Transform Shipping: Meeting IMO GHG Targets for 2030 and Beyond

On Tuesday, our Policy Advisor Elise Nyborg attended a Team Norway event (an initiative led by the Norwegian Ministry of Trade) Collaborating to Transform Shipping: Meeting IMO GHG Targets for 2030 and Beyond. Hosted by the Norwegian-British Chamber of Commerce, the event was held at the Norwegian Ambassador’s Residence, in London.

The session was opened by Norway's new Minister of Fisheries & Ocean Policy, who spoke about the direction set by the IMO in adopting the 2023 GHG revised strategy and the importance of the government and the industry uniting behind this common goal.

Chamber member Tom Strang from Carnival joined the panel of maritime experts from the UK and Norway to explore the collaborations already underway and discuss the likely pathways for the future and the hurdles that must be overcome to achieve a greener future. The panel also identified green financing, digitalisation, and data sharing as key issues.

Annual Dinner New Sponsor

We are delighted to announce that V. has reconfirmed its sponsorship for the President's Reception at our 2024 Annual Dinner.

Commenting on their sponsorship, René Kofod-Olsen, V. CEO, said:

“V. is delighted to be sponsoring the President’s Reception again at the Chamber’s Annual Dinner.

"Although this will be V. Chairman Graham Westgarth’s last Annual Dinner as President of the Chamber, we're looking forward to supporting his continued involvement with the UKCoS and the wider maritime industry. We hope to reconnect with our friends from across the maritime industry at what we're certain will be an exceptional event.”
