05 Sep 22 UK Chamber of Shipping Celebrates Merchant Navy Day Today (3 September) the UK Chamber of Shipping is celebrating Merchant Navy Day. Merchant Navy Day is an annual campaign, run by The Seafarers' Charity, honours those who kept the UK float in wartime & celebrates the men and women of the modern day Merchant Navy. Commenting on behalf of the Merchant Navy Training Board (MNTB), which is part of the UK Chamber of Shipping. MNTB Director Kathryn Neilson said:“Our seafarers carry out incredibly important work, bringing more than 95% of all trade to our island. For that, and for the important role they play in our industry, we say a big THANK YOU. We greatly value their work and must ensure that the Maritime training and education they receive here in the UK will equip them with the transferable skills they need to compete in a highly competitive global market. “Through the Maritime Skills Commission’s Cadet Training and Modernisation Project and the work of the MNTB, we are doing just that. Creating seafarer training programmes that adapt with our ever-changing industry whilst also creating new and exciting career pathways that highlight all the opportunities available within the maritime industry.” If you would like to learn more or donate please click here.
