15 Feb 22 Meet the Chamber Blog : Hannah Gilbert Policy Adviser Hannah Gilbert answers questions about her role and the Chamber and life to date. “What your role is at the Chamber. My role as a Policy Advisor at the Chamber revolves around working on maritime commercial and legal issues, such as tonnage tax. I participate in the BIMCO Documentary Committee and I am also Secretary to the Documentary Sub-Committee. Alongside this, I provide secretariate support for the Taxation and Economics Committee, as well as the Legal, Insurance and Documentary Committee.Last book you read? The last book I read was Educated by Tara Westover – I normally don’t get on with autobiographies as a general rule, but I found this memoir to be easily digestible as a self-proclaimed keen fiction reader. The book follows the life of Tara from a young age growing up in a survivalist Mormon family who reject the use of modern medicine and are avid school refusers. I would recommend reading the blurb for potential triggers, but I found her writing style to be very lyrical and the story fascinating.Favourite holiday destination? My absolute favourite holiday destination has to be Marrakech in Morocco. I travelled there in between university terms for about a week and would absolutely say that there wasn’t enough time to do all the activities offered. I rode a camel for the first (and only) time, biked over the nearby plains, explored the El Bahia Palace and souks, relaxed in the Jardin Majorelle, and climbed to the top of the Ouzoud Falls. Would absolutely recommend a trip and it is definitely on my list of places to return! One thing that would surprise you about me.I have a very odd and specific fear of ice-skating – why anyone would want to walk around with blades strapped to their feet is beyond me.Career highlight.Although I’ve not been with the Chamber very long, my career highlight so far has to be the Annual Dinner held at JW Marriott Grosvenor House. Beautiful venue and a wonderful opportunity to network whilst enjoying an incredible evening of food and drink. The person you most admire and why?If I had to pick just one person, I would definitely say my grandma – she was a nurse and carer and is one of the strongest women I’ve ever had the pleasure of knowing.” Share:
