The Cargo Incident Notification System (CINS) have released a publication titled, Safety Considerations for Ship Operators Related to Risk-Based Stowage of Dangerous Goods on Containerships.

The publication is a response to serious fire incidents in recent month and year years, often caused by mis or non-declared cargoes and deficient cargo packing. The guidance is to assist ship operators, cargo carriers, and ports/terminals, by providing a risk-based dangerous goods stowage strategy, applying to all sizes of container vessel.

The guidance does not replace the SOLAS and IMDG requirements for stowage and segregation. It is intended that the guidance will enhance the requirements of these regulations.
