An introduction to the proposal to expand UK Emission Control Areas, offering members an opportunity to present queries or concerns directly to the Department for Transport (DfT).

The Department for Transport (DfT) has initiated a call for evidence to explore the potential expansion of Emission Control Areas (ECAs) and the implementation of alternative strategies aimed at reducing air pollutant emissions from shipping within UK waters.

The DfT has expressed interest in receiving a wide range of industry perspectives. To this end, a session has been organised by the Chamber to present the proposal in detail, offering members an opportunity to present queries or concerns directly to the DfT. This session, featuring a presentation and an FAQ segment by Rodolfo Barradas, Maritime Environment Senior Policy Advisor at the DfT, is scheduled for Thursday, 15 February at 2 pm GMT. Members are encouraged to register for the event using the provided link to secure an invitation.

Although the consultation's primary focus is the potential expansion of the North Sea ECA to cover all UK waters, it will be relevant to wider membership as it includes questions on what else besides ECAs could be done to address air pollution from ships.
