08 Apr 26 UK Chamber of Shipping Statement Regarding Security in the Middle East The UK Chamber of Shipping is closely monitoring situation in the Middle East and will regularly update this statement as the situation evolves. Last Updated 8 April 2026. A spokesperson for the UK Chamber said:We welcome the announcement of a conditional ceasefire and hope this de‑escalation signals a first step on the path to stability in the region. We recognise that this is a short‑term development and is unlikely to result in an immediate return to normal trading conditions. In the immediate period, the industry’s priority is the safety of vessels and crews currently in the region. The ceasefire may offer an opportunity for ships to exit the Strait, but any movement will depend on transparent details from the parties involved and effective international coordination. Seafarers continue to face the direct consequences of this geopolitical instability, and their safety, welfare and rights must remain paramount.A lot of work is still needed to turn this announcement into lasting improvements in the Strait. The UK Chamber of Shipping will continue to work closely with government, international partners and industry stakeholders to encourage a durable solution that allows maritime trade to resume in a safe, predictable and secure manner. For more information please contact Director of External Affairs, Stef Kenyon.
