UK Chamber of Shipping welcomes John Denholm as ICS Chair

The UK Chamber of Shipping has welcomed the appointment of John Denholm CBE as Chair of the International Chamber of Shipping during the organisation’s Annual General Meeting in Rome, highlighting the importance of strong leadership at a time of significant global change for the shipping industry.

A former President of the UK Chamber and a longstanding figure in both the UK and international shipping industry, John brings extensive experience to the role at a time when global shipping is navigating significant geopolitical, regulatory and commercial change.

Commenting on the appointment, Rhett Hatcher, Chief Executive of the UK Chamber of Shipping, said:

On behalf of the UK Chamber of Shipping, I warmly congratulate John Denholm on his appointment as Chair of the International Chamber of Shipping.

This is an important time for global shipping, and John’s expertise, experience and leadership will be invaluable as the industry responds to geopolitical uncertainty, drives forward decarbonisation and continues to champion seafarer welfare.

We look forward working closely with John and the ICS team to support a safe, resilient and sustainable future for global shipping.

John Denholm is Executive Chairman of J. & J. Denholm and Denholm Energy Services. He succeeds Emanuele Grimaldi, President and Managing Director of Grimaldi Euromed SpA, who concludes four years as Chairman after leading the organisation through a period of unprecedented challenge and change for international shipping.

The appointment comes at a time of heightened geopolitical volatility and regulatory change for global shipping, underlining the need for strong, coordinated leadership to support the industry’s transition to net zero, maintain efficient global trade flows, and uphold high standards of safety and seafarer welfare.
