13 Jul 22 The Weekly Bulletin: Friday 8th July 2022 Seafarers' Wages BillEarlier this week the UK Government published the Seafarers’ Wages Bill. You can read the UK Chamber of Shipping’s reaction to the Bill’s publication here. The Bill will now begin its passage through Parliament, a process, with the summer recess, likely to take several months. The Chamber will be working hard to ensure that the Bill avoids undermining established international agreements that help ensure the shipping industry can function seamlessly across the globe and also avoids creating an unreasonable burden on ports. We have also been engaged with the Department for Transport on the draft Framework that will implement the Nine Point Plan for seafarers. We will continue to keep members up to date on developments. Website upgradeI’m pleased to be able to say that plans for an overhaul of our website are back underway and as part of this project we are keen to hear the views of Chamber members. The Chamber is hosting three workshops (dates below) which provide an opportunity for members to come and express their views about the current website and what they would like to see the new site deliver.Workshop dates: (All workshops are being held virtually)15 July 11am to Midday19 July 2pm to 3pm2 August 11am to MiddayIf you would like to attend one of the workshops, please email the Chamber’s Director of Communications Tom Bartošák-Harlow specifying which workshop you wish to attend and you will be provided with the login details.Maritime Safety WeekThank you to all those who took part in Maritime Safety Week this week, it is an important milestone to remind everyone across the industry of the importance of doing everything we can to save lives at sea.
