The conference will build on last year’s event, whose theme was “Safety Culture equals good business sense” and will focus on the role of top management in determining an organisation’s safety culture. The event will be interactive and include sessions on leadership response to incidents, leadership and mental wellbeing and the role of leadership’s role in risk management. There will be keynote speakers, breakout sessions and panel discussions, as well as a conference dinner in the evening of 20 September.Full details of the programme and information on how to purchase tickets will be published shortly.Ballast Water Management Convention (BWMC)Earlier this year the UK acceded to the International Convention for the Control and Management of Ships' Ballast Water and Sediments on 26 May. The UK domestic regulations enter into force on 29 July 2022 and implement the Convention requirements. They establish standards and procedures for the management and control of ships' ballast water and sediments, establish a survey and certification regime for ships and prescribe technical requirements relating to ballast water management systems installed on ships. The Maritime and Coastguard Agency has also published MSN 1908 and MGN 675. MSN 1908 provides the detailed technical requirements of the obligations contained in the Regulations, and MGN 675 provides guidance on certain aspects of the Regulations. These documents have replaced the ballast water FAQ.The Chamber will continue to work collaboratively with the UK Government and other industry stakeholders to help improve the implementation of the BWMC considering the experience gained over the last few years.Any member with any questions about these regulations should contact Anna Ziou.Chamber recruitment – digital communicationsAs mentioned last week, we are looking to recruit a Digital Communications Manager to lead on our content across the Chamber’s social media channels and website.
