11 Nov 22 The Weekly Bulletin: Friday 11 November 2022 Welcome to this week’s Bulletin. This week saw the start of the 2022 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP27). One of many announcements was the news that the UK along with three other countries will be leading the way in the rollout of ‘green shipping corridors’. You can read what the Chamber had to say in the announcement below. This Tuesday, I was delighted to attend the Scottish Shipping Benevolent Association (SSBA) annual dinner in Glasgow, along with other members of the Chamber. This was a good opportunity to meet industry peers and raise money to support people working in the industry in times of hardship. The Chamber is also hosting its 2023 Annual Dinner in February. This will be a good opportunity to celebrate recent achievements in the industry and network with colleagues around the maritime sector. Become a UK Maritime Ambassador To Inspire Young PeopleThe Chamber is helping Maritime UK promote and coordinate the delivery of the industry's recommendations within the Maritime 2050 strategy. One of the key pillars of the strategy is 'people', with a focus on promoting maritime as a career in schools and colleges. To help us achieve this goal, we encourage everyone within our industry to consider becoming a Maritime UK industry ambassador. The initiative recruits people from all corners of the sector as volunteers to support young people who will learn by interacting with employees from within the sector as part of their education. To date, over 55,000 thousand young people have been engaged, but now we want to double this number and ask for your support. There will be an introductory webinar for potential ambassadors on 24 November 2022 and you can register for the webinar. You can also find out more about the programme and sign-up as an ambassador.Green Shipping Corridors UK will join the US, Norway and the Netherlands in the roll-out of end-to-end decarbonised shipping routes.
