12 May 25 New Offshore Panel Chair Announced We are pleased to welcome Michael Gordon of North Star as the new Chair of the Chamber’s Offshore Panel. The Offshore Panel is one of the main sector specific policy groupings of the UK Chamber of Shipping, with its Chair also having a seat on the Chamber’s Supervisory Board.Michael takes on this leadership role at a pivotal time for the UK offshore sector, as it navigates a critical period of transition with energy security, offshore renewable development, technological advancement and decarbonisation.Michael commented:“Engaging with government is an important role for our industry and the wider client base to which we look to enable, I am looking forward to helping advise and represent our world class owners group within the chamber to help shape and drive policy over the coming years.North Star as an industry leader is steadfast in its role in the offshore vessel industry and are also keen to enable cross industry working with the other chamber members groups across the merchant and navy panels to see how we can benefit from each others expertise”The Offshore Panel—comprising over 20 operators with in excess of 300 vessels—serves as a vital forum for vessel owners, operators, and professional members of the Chamber to collaborate on policy, share knowledge, and track regulatory developments.The Panel supports vessels across a diverse range of activities, including oil & gas, renewables, cable laying, offshore construction, and research & survey.We extend our sincere thanks to Ewan Geddes, Managing Director of Tidewater UK, for his exceptional leadership as Chair since July 2014. 12 May 2025 Industry secures further funding commitment for SMarT scheme The UK Chamber and MNTB have welcomed confirmation from the Government and Maritime and Coastguard agency, that seafarer cadets will continue to benefit from financial support for their training through the Support for Maritime Training Fund (SMarT) until at least 31 March 2026.
