20 Mar 23 Maritime Minister Visits Port of Southampton Maritime Minister Baroness Vere was in Southampton on Friday, 17 March, for a port tour, hosted by the UK Chamber of Shipping and Associated British Ports. This was a fantastic opportunity to show the Minister how much the shipping industry contributes to the UK economy. The tour was followed by a roundtable of Chamber members and port stakeholders to explore how we and the Government can work together to ensure challenges and industry demands are met, such as net zero targets and the development of new skills. UK Chamber of Shipping Director of Communications Tom Bartošák-Harlow said:"The visit was an opportunity to show the minister the varied nature of the shipping industry and its interaction with not just the local economy of Southampton but across the UK. "During the roundtable with port stakeholders, the minister heard from a range of Chamber of Shipping members on the importance of joint investment in decarbonisation and working together to promote careers in the shipping sector."Thank you to all Chamber members who attended and especially Williams Shipping who were kind enough to provide a vessel for the port tour."
