Looking beyond 1 July, we also convened a specialist session with officials from DfT, DESNZ, and the EA, to examine proposals to extend the ETS to offshore activities from 1 January 2027, ensuring early scrutiny of the potential operational and commercial impacts.

At a political level, last week we represented industry in discussions with Minister for Industry Chris McDonald MP on the Isle of Wight. The Minister met with members Wightlink and Red Funnel, and local business representatives to explore the specific impacts for the island following Chamber lobbying and the issue being raise in PMQs earlier in the spring. Alongside the specific impacts for island communities, and our calls for lifeline services to be exempted from the scheme, we also explored the challenges of implementation and our calls for greater investment and revenue recycling to support meaningful decarbonisation projects and the need for the UK to champion a global framework to reach net zero. We also remain engaged with Northern Irish political stakeholders, following the Chamber's ETS evidence session to the Northern Ireland Assembly in March.  

We are also closely monitoring developments ahead of the next UK-EU Summit, now postponed. The summit will have implications for the industry given that the UK Government has made a commitment to dynamically align its ETS with the EU scheme, and the current systems are not yet well aligned. Therefore, the Chamber will continue to analyse the possible interactions ahead of the EU Commission's release of the EU ETS review, scheduled for 15 July and the anticipated summit dialogue. 

As implementation approaches, we will continue to work closely with members to provide support, escalate key issues, and continue to press the concerns of members and partners around the implementation of the scheme.
