15 Aug 25 Blog | Setting a course for Growth - A New Look at the UK’s Maritime Competitiveness Ahead of the UK Chamber's event "Setting a course for Growth" taking place during London International Shipping Week on 15 September, Director of External Affairs, Stef Kenyon takes a look at what our new, ground-breaking, research will explore about the UK's competitiveness as a global centre for maritime business: The UK’s maritime industry has long been a cornerstone of its economic strength and global influence. But in a rapidly evolving global landscape—shaped by digitalisation, sustainability imperatives, and shifting trade dynamics— understanding our position—and how we can strengthen it—has never been more important. That’s why we’ve commissioned a major new study with the Centre for Economics and Business Research (Cebr) to assess the competitiveness of the UK shipping industry. This research will go beyond traditional assessments developing a comprehensive Shipping Competitiveness Index—a first-of-its-kind tool designed to benchmark the UK shipping industry’s performance against global peers. Drawing on a wide array of economic, regulatory, and innovation indicators, from infrastructure and innovation to regulation, talent, and sustainability, the study will provide a structured, data-driven view of the UK’s strengths, challenges, and opportunities across the sector. The findings of this study will be unveiled at our upcoming event, “Setting a Course for Growth – Exploring the Competitiveness of the UK as a Destination for Shipping Business”, during LISW, to explore where the UK shipping industry stands today, how its position has shifted over time and what lessons can be learned from other leading maritime nations. This event will bring together industry leaders, policymakers, and experts to discuss the future of UK shipping and the strategic insights emerging from this landmark research.Join us as we chart the course for a more competitive, resilient, and forward-looking shipping sector.Learn more about the event and register here Share:
