This interactive session, led by ORCA’s Chief Executive, Sally Hamilton, and Director of Fundraising and Operations, Steve Jones, will provide an overview of the current ship strike risk landscape and outline best practice mitigation approaches.

The aim is to open a constructive dialogue with shipping operators, creating a safe and confidential space to share experiences of vessel strikes or near misses and reflect on the practicalities of implementing measures such as speed reductions or rerouting.

ORCA is seeking feedback from industry to help inform their contributions to expert policy discussions, including at the International Whaling Commission. The session therefore aims to explore how mitigation measures intersect with operational realities, and where industry voices can help shape more effective and workable approaches at the international level.

The workshop is open to all members but may be of particular interest to those involved in navigational planning, safety management, or environmental compliance. ORCA brings extensive experience from working with companies across a wide range of geographies - including the UK, Mediterranean, Antarctic, US East Coast and Alaska - and this session is intended to be the first in a possible series depending on member interest.
