In the Budget and Spending Review, the Chancellor announced changes to the UK's Tonnage Tax regime. The Budget announces that: "the government will make substantive reforms to the UK's Tonnage Tax regime for the first time since it was introduced in 2000. These reforms aim to increase the number of firms basing their headquarters in the UK, boosting the UK's world-leading maritime services...
Maritime cadets will continue to receive COVID-19 funding, with the training scheme extended once more. The Maritime & Coastguard Agency (MCA) has confirmed a further six-month extension to the Maritime Training (SMarT) Fund, for cadets unable to finish their training due to COVID, something the Merchant Navy Training Board (MNTB) has long been calling for.

At COP26 in Glasgow, the Government has launched the Clydebank Declaration. 19 countries have declared their ambition and intent to support the establishment of green shipping corridors – zero-emission shipping routes between 2 ports.
