Chamber attends APPG for Trade and Investment in India

On Wednesday, the Chamber’s Policy Advisor, Hannah Gilbert, attended and spoke at a roundtable discussion on sustainable supply chain practices within the UK-India trade sector.

Artisan Furniture hosted the event in collaboration with the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for Trade and Investment in India and the 1928 Institute. Lord Desai and various industry leaders involved in the supply chain were also in attendance.

Given the international nature of trade, the discussion centred around a range of topics, including the ability of developing countries and smaller businesses to monitor ESG commitments, which can be limited due to administrative, financial and technical restrictions.

The landscape across the supply chain indicated that customers were becoming far more interested in seeing sustainable business practices. The Chamber also noted that access to finance was often linked to sustainability and transition-related credentials, indicating the pressure from both sides of the supply chain.

The Department for Business and Trade is currently negotiating a UK-India Free Trade Agreement, and the Chamber will monitor the outcome.
