This week we were at the Scottish Parliament for our annual Holyrood reception, kindly sponsored by MSP Liam McArthur, to launch our Value of Shipping for Scotland report. Director of Policy Peter Aylott took part in the maritime futures panel discussing positive disruptive technology and potential synergies with the international space industry. More information is available on their website.Elsewhere, we will host an International Shipping Seminar on 22 November at the Marlborough Theatre from 2 pm to 5 pm. This half-day seminar will focus on vessel vetting, sustainability, decarbonisation and regulatory measures. Speakers will include Paul Markides of Intercargo, Andrew Roberts of RightShip, Gary Walsh of Watson Farley & Williams and Andrea Skeoch from NorthStandard. There will also be a drinks reception and networking after the seminar.Additionally, the Marine Society has launched a Digital Library App offering the possibility of thousands of downloadable books in multiple languages. UK Chamber of Shipping and BPA host Annual Holyrood ReceptionOn Tuesday, the Chamber and the British Ports Association (BPA) headed to Edinburgh to host our annual Holyrood reception, where we had the pleasure of welcoming nearly 190 guests, among them MSPs and various representatives from the maritime sector.This year, we launched our Value of Shipping Scotland report, which provides readers with an overview of the benefits delivered by the shipping industry in Scotland. Furthermore, we asked MSPs for their support in creating adequate infrastructure that can sustain the development of greener ships and maximise growth in the Scottish economy.Our CEO, Sarah Treseder, during her speech, highlighted a few priorities for the industry:Ensuring there is sufficient grid connectivity and capacity to allow vessels to be powered by electricity in ports.Delivering on overdue road infrastructure projects, such as the A75 from Cairnryan.Raising awareness of maritime careers for young people by ensuring career advisers are aware of the new opportunities that exist through an increase in technology and data.British Tugowners Association Set for 2023 Safety SeminarThe British Tugowners Association (BTA) Annual Safety Seminar will take place on 16 November 2023 at The Insurance Hall, London, with an overarching theme of Operational and Practical Safety.This all-day Annual Safety Seminar attracts 80+ delegates from across the towage, pilot, harbour master and wider shipping sector. The seminar will hear from industry leaders, such as the MCA, Marine Accident Investigation Branch, Shipowners’ P&I, Sensor Technologies and BMT Global, and presentation of the 2022 BTA Safety Statistics by Boluda Towage. The afternoon session will feature an interactive element, and attendees will be encouraged to participate in a thought leadership exercise that will guide the priorities of the BTA and provide ideas for future safety campaigns.An informal private dinner will be held the night before in London for BTA members and guests. It now offers reading content in the form of the Marine Society Digital Library App - Marine Society Crew Library.There are different annual subscriptions per vessel according to the material required.
