The British Rig Owners Association (BROA) welcomes new chairholders

The British Rig Owners Association (BROA) is pleased to confirm its new set of Chairholders to continue the vital work of the Association in representing the interests and concerns of the offshore energy community.

New Officers

  • Chair of BROA - Jon Oliver Bryce, Chief Strategy Officer at Dolphin Drilling
  • Chair of BROA Technical Committee - Dan Rowan, Vice President - Head of Marine Operations at Cadeler
  • Vice-Chair of BROA Technical Committee - Innes Cormack, Stena Drilling.

Jon Oliver Bryce, a long-standing energy industry executive, has extensive operational & management experience across his thirty-year career. Working in a series of senior roles for rig owning companies, he has worked predominately within the offshore drilling sector, but also and more recently within the offshore wind vessel space. During this time, he has built & managed various business models including asset build and fleet charter. Jon Oliver will serve an initial three-year period as Chair and represent BROA at the Chamber’s Supervisory Board.

John Vingoe had been a longstanding Chair of BROA, being in position since 2016, and is wholeheartedly thanked by the Association, Secretariat, and wider offshore energy community for having given such time and expertise the role.

BROA’s Outgoing Chair, John Vingoe of Cadeler, commented:

“It has been a privilege to represent as Chair of BROA for the last nine years and put forward the case for the offshore energy community in the UK. It has been a challenging time for the industry but through creating and maintaining strong relationships with regulators and wider stakeholders, I believe BROA has made a real positive difference to members operations and businesses. I congratulate Jon Oliver Bryce, whom I know will take on the mantle admirably.”

BROA’s New Chair, Jon Oliver Bryce of Dolphin Drilling, commented:

“I am delighted to take on the role of Chair for the British Rig Owners Association, as well as take a seat on the UK Chamber of Shipping’s Supervisory Board. Having been involved in the “rig industry” for my whole career, I am very familiar with the scale & complexity of both its challenges and opportunities, and firmly believe a dedicated trade association is an invaluable resource to the industry.

As a result of the global Net Zero transition, the UKs marine industry faces a period of unprecedented technical, operational, and regulatory change, which I believe BROA is uniquely suited to guide members with, and this makes my appointment even more interesting and rewarding. I would like to thank the outgoing BROA Chair John Vingoe and BROA Manager Robert Merrylees for their support with this appointment and I now look forward to helping BROA continue to deliver value for its membership.”

Early Government Engagement

BROA recognises the firm views the new Labour Government has on UK offshore energy and the significant consequences for the drilling and wider offshore energy community.

That is why BROA’s new Chair has already written on behalf of the association to the Chancellor. The Chair’s letter raised awareness of the vital importance of the MOU sector for the UK, highlighted potentially unknown serious consequences of any sudden policy changes and called for deep and meaningful industry engagement. While we wait for a response we continue to work with partners, including OEUK, to ensure the views of the sector are well known.
