03 Feb 26 Norman Hawkes Named Careers at Sea Ambassador of the Year Norman Hawkes has been named the winner of the Careers at Sea Ambassador of the Year Award 2025. Norman was presented with the honour at the UK Chamber of Shipping Annual Dinner on 2 February by the Maritime Minister, Keir Mather MP. Norman’s passion for maritime careers and his tireless efforts to engage young people have made him an outstanding advocate for the industry and his longstanding commitment has been invaluable to the Careers at Sea programme.An active Careers at Sea ambassador for many years, delivering engaging presentations in schools and attending careers events across the country. Through his work, he has helped raise awareness of the exciting opportunities available in the shipping industry and encouraged countless young people to explore careers at sea. Norman Hawkes said:Being a Careers at Sea ambassador is a privilege. I love sharing my experiences and showing young people that a career at sea can be both rewarding and full of adventure. If I can inspire even one person to take that path, it’s worth every effort. Kathryn Neilson, Director of the Merchant Navy Training Board, added:Norman exemplifies what it means to be an ambassador. His enthusiasm and dedication have helped countless young people understand the incredible opportunities available in maritime careers. We are delighted to recognise his contribution with this award. His passion for life at sea and commitment to sharing his experiences have made a significant impact on young people considering a future in the maritime industry.Born in Morayshire, Scotland, Norman’s connection to the sea began early in life.
