The Symposium aims to find possible solutions to the risks created by extreme maritime weather events - those which are dangerous to any ship at sea and are a threat to life, property and the marine environment, notwithstanding the economic impacts to the global blue economy.

The provisional themes of the Symposium include:

- Extreme maritime weather

- SOLAS Convention requirements

- End-user requirements

- Ship observations for met-ocean information

- Utilisation of available and emerging technology for improved navigation

- Earth-ocean prediction capability and forecast at sea
