Women in Maritime Charter
Maritime UK’s Women in Maritime Taskforce asks you to show your support and commitment to helping improve the diversity of our sector by taking a positive step and signing our Women in Maritime ‘Pledge’.
The Pledge reflects our aspiration to see gender balance at all levels across maritime sector. Women are a largely under-represented group within the maritime world, and they bring a unique and different perspective to all businesses.
A balanced workforce is good for business – it is good for customers, for profitability and workplace culture. McKinsey latest research finds that companies in the top quartile for gender or racial and ethnic diversity are more likely to have financial returns above their national industry medians.
Companies in the bottom quartile in these dimensions are statistically less likely to achieve above-average returns. Diversity is probably a competitive differentiator that shifts market share toward more diverse companies over time.
As representative bodies in the maritime sector, the Women in Maritime Taskforce and UK Chamber of Shipping are asking you to support us by signing our pledge.
Signatories to the pledge will be making clear their support for creating positive change within their respective organisations and collectively, across the UK maritime sector it is a headline statement of intent. Though, organisations that sign the pledge will be encouraged to take practical steps and set themselves measurable and ambitious goals towards meeting this pledge.
