UK plans light-touch border checks after transition

Numerous media sources are reporting that the UK government will avoid rigorous border checks on imports after the end of the Brexit transition period on 31 December 2020.

Responding to the reports, Bob Sanguinetti UK Chamber of Shipping Chief Executive said:

“We welcome the move by the government to take a pragmatic and flexible approach to the new customs checks, something the Chamber and its members have long called for.

“There are still urgent issues which need to be resolved including IT and infrastructure to ensure free flowing trade, and we will continue to work with government to ensure the UK is well prepared as we come to the end of the transition period.”
