The UK Chamber of Shipping was last night announced as the winner of the ‘Best In-House Team to Work For’ at the prestigious Public Affairs News Awards, hosted by the Daily Mirror’s political editor Kevin Maguire.

The award was presented in recognition of the public affairs work the UK Chamber has undertaken in the past year, as well as the strong teamwork of the organisation as a whole. Among the factors taken into account were the quality of UK Chamber’s political engagement and its wider working culture – including social activities and corporate social responsibility.

The judges were especially impressed by the responsibility given to public affairs staff through initiatives such as Maritime UK and also by the facts that the UK Chamber has paid public affairs interns the London Living Wage and raised money for charity through the annual dinner.

The UK Chamber’s Director General Mark Brownrigg said:

“The award comes at the end of an incredibly exciting year for the UK Chamber’s public affairs activity. With our Maritime UK partners, we have generated extensive political influence within Parliament and Government, as demonstrated by the ‘strategic partnership’ with numerous Government departments that aims to create the environment for growth. London International Shipping Week too has helped provide a step-change in the maritime services sector’s political relationships that will be built upon in the interest of the full maritime cluster.

“We are tremendously proud of the whole UK Chamber team, and have worked hard to establish a creative and professional atmosphere that allows our staff to thrive as we seek to champion and protect this great industry.

“Public Affairs is at the heart of what we do. Without political influence, fostered and developed by the efforts of our whole team, we could not deliver for our members. So to have our work recognised by the public affairs industry as a whole is a great honour.”
