UK businesses gear up to promote maritime careers on Tidal Tuesday
Less than a week remains before shipping businesses around the UK will throw open their doors to promote maritime careers on Tidal Tuesday (6th March), as part of National Careers Week.
The Merchant Navy Training Board’s (MNTB) Careers at Sea campaign is sponsoring an entire day during National Careers Week (5th -10th March), which will be dubbed Tidal Tuesday.
The day will aim to inform schools, colleges and youth groups of the opportunities at sea available to young people and the lifelong career prospects that the maritime industry offers.
Careers at Sea is engaging shipping firms from around the UK to help it in its mission. So far, 25 different organisations have so far pledged to participate in Tidal Tuesday, with more expected to confirm shortly.
Fleetwood Nautical Campus has arranged for a local school group to visit its facilities in Lancashire. Another school group is set to visit a vessel operated by a ferry company in Scotland.
Other maritime organisations will be appear at careers events in Liverpool and on the River Thames in London.
The Rochester-based Ship Safe Training Group (SSTG) will be visiting local careers events next week, and will help promote Tidal Tuesday online.
Tidal Tuesday’s online presence will be bolstered by Great Bear Maritime, which is hosting an online Q&A about careers in the industry, aimed at young people and jobseekers. Many other companies have pledged to lend their online support on the day, using the official hashtag #tidaltuesday.
CargoMate, an online platform for vessel operators, is creating a short video entitled ‘5 reasons to join the Merchant Navy’, which will be shared via social media.
