Bob Sanguinetti on why he is running the London Marathon for Seafarers UK.
UK Chamber Chief Executive Bob Sanguinetti is running the London Marathon next month, and is hoping to raise £10,000 for Seafarers UK, the grant-making charity that has supported seafarers and their families for over 100 years.
“I was at sea myself for many years in the Royal Navy. There’s no doubt whatsoever that a career at sea comes with many rewards – the sense of adventure, the camaraderie and life-long friendships. But it can be difficult too. Being away from loved ones for long periods of time, the sense of isolation and so on. It’s hard on people.
“So it’s really important to me to be raising money for Seafarers UK. They do a great job in supporting seafarers, particularly those who have fallen on hard times in one way or another. When I get a little tired during the marathon that thought will certainly keep me going”.
The marathon comes after the UK Chamber’s annual dinner raised £6000 for the Jubilee Sailing Trust and Mariners’ Park.
“We take our social responsibilities very seriously, and we are always looking for ways we can support our maritime charities in the vital work they do. We encourage those charities to continue working with us to explore how we can support their objectives in the future.”
