The EU had launched its new Green Deal to get Europe to net zero by 2050. Bob Sanguinetti has welcomed the announcement:

“Tackling climate change is a top priority for us and we welcome the new European Green Deal launched by the Commission President. “Climate change is the greatest threat we face, and we all need to work together to reduce emissions. The UK Government has legally committed to being net-zero by 2050 and we are pleased to see the EU now has a long-term strategy that aims to reduce emissions, along with a commitment to growth and investment in green innovation, something we have been calling for.
“The shipping industry is working to cut its carbon emissions, achieving almost 20% reduction in the past 10 years. But we know there is more to do, and we will continue to work with our members, the Government and international partners to ensure we are doing all we can to tackle climate change.”
