The National Maritime Occupational Health and Safety Committee (NMOHSC), comprising the Chamber and the unions Nautilus International and RMT, has published guidelines to shipping companies on workplace smoking policies, updating a publication first issued in 1996.

The guidelines state that company policies to control smoking on ships should reflect, to the greatest extent possible, policies applicable in workplaces ashore, notwithstanding that there are no UK laws to control smoking in enclosed public spaces on ships, other than those applicable to domestic passenger vessels in Scotland.

The guidelines can be downloaded, free of charge, from the Publications section of the Chamber’s website by clicking here.
