Workshop: GDPR and employing seafarers
Preparing your company and achieving compliancy
On Wednesday 27 September the UK Chamber of Shipping is holding an afternoon workshop, in partnership with the legal team from Hill Dickinson, on the General Data Protection Regulation which enters into force in May 2018.
The worskshop will assist members in their preparations and discuss concerns to ensure that companies employing crew members via manning agencies have compliant procedures for processing personal data.
All businesses with a base in an EU Member State – including the UK – irrespective of where they hold or process the personal data of living individuals; employees, consumers and clients, will be affected by the new regulations. Substantial increases in penalties will be applicable to organisations who breach the rules.
The workshop will be held from 14.00 - 17.00 and followed by networking drinks until 19.00 - all kindly sponsored by Hill Dickinson.
Following the event the chamber will begin preparing guidelines for shipping companies on the GDPR with a particular focus on the employment of seafarers and the processing of their personal data.
