We are pleased to announce that the UK Chamber of Shipping is working with the British Ports Association to organise a one-day conference on decarbonisation.

The UK Government announced that the UK will be 'net zero' by 2050. In Scotland the target is 2045 and opposition parties are promising to move that date forward. The IMO also has targeted a 50% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. This event aims to discuss what will be needed to meet those targets in terms of short and long term measures and who will meet the costs.

The day will cover four broad themes: the law; port and ship operations and efficiency; financing innovation and decarbonisation; and the infrastructure and technology that will be required to meet national and international targets.

We are delighted that Lord Deben, Chair of the Committee on Climate Change and a former Environment Secretary can join us.

Other speakers include representatives from the IMO, DfT, EU Commission, the Port of Oslo, Wartsila, Lloyd's Register, Ernst & Young, Shell, and Schneider Electric as well as several UK ports and UK shipping companies.

The conference will be followed by a networking drinks reception.
