The BTA is holding its Annual Safety Seminar on Thursday 10 November at the Northern Lighthouse Board (NLB) premises in Edinburgh. 

The full-day seminar is a practical operational session and this year is focussed on the recovery of persons in the water (PIW), in particular from small vessels and in/around harbours. 

The Seminar will also see the formal release of the BTA’s newly produced Guide to Good Practice for PIW Recovery for Small Vessels. A practitioners guide detailing the stages of recovery, equipment & techniques, which can be utilised and highlighting the importance of training and drills.

The Seminar will examine recent incidents, discuss accident prevention, and hear from tug experts, insurers and investigators. With an audience of tug masters, pilots, marine superintendents, P&I clubs, lawyers, workboat crew, harbour masters and others, the aim is to inform, discuss and share best practice.

The day will run from 0900-1600 with lunch and refreshments provided

All involved in harbour towage and pilotage are strongly encouraged to save the date for this important event. Attendance is free for members of the BTA, Chamber, UKMPA and UKHMA, Workboat Association along with invited guests. Non-members are welcome to join the day for £150.00.

An informal private supper will be held the night before in Edinburgh for BTA members and invited guests. For those travelling up the day before and wish to join, please contact Robert Merrylees.
